Terrace, nature and wellness
The building, which overlooks a terrace, garden and terraces, faces south and offers a splendid view of the valley and the surrounding mountains. Those who choose to stay here find well-being and plenty of nature. On the large natural terrace (150m2) that welcomes guests, breakfast and aperitifs can be enjoyed in the shade of the five magnificent mulberry trees that inspired the Lodge’s name ‘Mulberry House’. The terrace is also the ideal place to spend relaxing moments sunbathing, just a few steps away from the lush garden. Reading enthusiasts may also decide to spend some time in a special, dedicated corner, which is located among the wild flowers, in the shade of three more mulberry trees and overlooks the vineyards below. While, on a small promontory nestling among the hazelnut trees, there is a Swedish wood-fired pool that can be booked to enjoy moments of intimacy and well-being, sipping a good glass of wine and admiring the spectacle of the sunset over the Muggio Valley, in the shadow of Monte Generoso. One of the proposals for after dinner is to take advantage of the brazier in the garden, to meet Mr and Mrs Zanini and their guests, to have a nice chat in company and learn anecdotes about the valley.
Rural hospitality
The small village of Scudellate is located in the Muggio Valley, within the territory of Monte Generoso, in the Mendrisiotto region, a border region that over the years has seen the development of various economic activities and exchanges. A region that has been able to maintain its characteristics and traditions over time, and which has always been recognised for its ability to be very hospitable, because that is how the people who inhabit these places are. The Muggio Valley is the southernmost valley in Switzerland, an authentic place, rich in traditions and customs linked to the rural past. Scudellate lies at the far end of this beautiful valley where it is easy to forget that you are only a few kilometres from inhabited centres and the major roads and railways, which you cannot see. A south-facing village that has remained intact over the years and is nestled in an incredible natural landscape that allows people to feel at ease and enjoy the freedom and peace of the place, where the inhabitants are few in number, but very spontaneous and eager to share their daily lives with visitors.
Breakfasts and aperitifs
After a peaceful and relaxing night’s sleep, we invite you to enjoy a tasty breakfast of local products, which will be served until 11 am in the shade of the mulberry trees in our garden. In case of bad weather we will be pleased to welcome you at the large table in the fireplace hall.
Aperitifs will be served from 5 o’clock in the afternoon and you will be able to taste local red and white wines, as well as other liqueurs.
Panorama and Surroundings
The Monte Generoso region and the Muggio Valley offer an authentic and wild natural scenery. The picturesque village of Scudellate is nested atop the Muggio Valley, at the base of Monte Generoso. It boasts a prime location for soaking up sunshine and offers breathtaking sunset views. Scudellate is the ideal starting point for excursions to the Bellavista area, the summit of Monte Generoso, the Bisbino peak, from where it is possible to admire Lake Como or many other special places, even crossing the state border to reach destinations in the Valle d’Intelvi. The levels of difficulty of the hiking trails vary and it is advisable to inform yourself well before setting off and equip yourself appropriately. In Scudellate, every season offers natural panoramas, colours and unique sensations that excite, as well as the tranquility and simplicity of the place, which encourages a feeling of a return to the values of rural life and closeness to nature.
Vineyards, Vegetable Gardens and Fruit Trees
The renovation of the ‘Casa dei Gelsi’ also made it possible to recover the old terracing, which now houses the highest vineyard in Canton Ticino. A garden has also been created within the large vineyard that seems to be attached to the rock face of Monte Generoso. These vineyards are now home to ‘Divona’, a very hardy interspecific and organic white grape variety that does not require specific treatment. Native fruit trees have been planted in the garden, as well as 10 cherry trees that once inspired the name of the via Sceresa (which is the dialect expression for ‘cherry’). Finally, in the immediate vicinity of the rooms on the first floor, a vegetable garden has been created to provide herbs, spices and vegetables for Scudellate’s guests.

After a quiet and restful night, it is important to start the day off right with a hearty breakfast. In the shade of the mulberry trees on the magnificent natural terrace, you can enjoy excellent breakfasts characterised by the use of local, quality products.
Aperitifs
The breathtaking view of the Muggio Valley from the Panorama Lodge “La Casa dei Gelsi” is the ideal place to enjoy an aperitif. This will be the best way best way to prepare for a magnificent dinner at the Osteria Manciana, and then end the evening with a digestif around the brazier in the garden of our Lodge.
Picnic lunch
You are setting off on one of the many excursions in the vicinity of Scudellate and would like to have a good, fresh and rejuvenating meal with you. No problem, our kitchen offers the possibility of organising tasty packed lunches with local and seasonal products that you can easily take with you wherever you like.
